A 32 year old man who lashed out and assaulted security officers and police at Hull Paragon station has been jailed for more than seven months following a British Transport Police (BTP) investigation.
Liam Sullivan, of Salthouse Lane, Hull, pleaded guilty to two counts of assault and two counts of assaulting an emergency worker.
He was sentenced to 29 weeks in jail at Hull Crown Court on Friday 9 February. He was also ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £154.
The court heard how, on Wednesday 3 January last year, security officers were called the toilets at Hull Paragon station following reports of a man loitering.
When the man did not emerge from the locked cubicle they knocked on the door and asked if the person inside was ok.
Sullivan emerged from the cubicle, shouting and swearing at the security officers.
They accompanied him to the station concourse where he attempted the assault them.
As they escorted him from the station, Sullivan removed his headphones and hit one of the security officers in the face, knocking her glasses from her face.
Sullivan was restrained by the security officers who called BTP. When they arrived Sullivan became more aggressive and was arrested for assault. He was taken to the police station where he then bit a female officer puncturing the skin.
He then went on to kick and bite the security officer on the thigh while another BTP officer was kicked in the face.
Investigating officer Sgt Richard Soare said: “This was a despicable attack on police and security staff who were just doing their job, making sure a railway is a safe place for everyone when they were viciously assaulted.
“These people are sons and daughters, fathers and mothers, wives and husbands who should expect to come to work without fear of abuse or assault.
“Sullivan’s sentence sends out a clear message that any form of violence towards those who work on the railway will never be tolerated.”
