A 27-year-old man has been charged in connection with an attempted kidnapping of a teenage girl in Swindon, Wiltshire Police have confirmed.
Abdulmawal Ibrahim Adam, of Stanier Street, has been charged with attempting to kidnap a 17-year-old girl, and is due to appear before Swindon Magistrates’ Court today (20 March).
The charge follows an incident on March 6, when the teenager was allegedly chased and grabbed on Fleming Way while on her way home from work. The girl managed to escape, and police launched an investigation shortly after the report was made.
Adam was remanded in custody following the authorisation of the charge on Wednesday night (19 March).
A spokesperson for Wiltshire Police said:
“We take reports of this nature extremely seriously and have worked swiftly to identify and charge a suspect. The victim is being supported, and we are continuing our investigation.”
Police have not released further details due to the ongoing legal proceedings, but have encouraged anyone who may have witnessed the incident or has additional information to come forward.
