A man has been charged with murder following a fatal stabbing that rocked a quiet Salisbury neighbourhood.
Emergency services rushed to a property on Davies Road, Longhedge, at 7.52am on Saturday after receiving reports of a serious incident. There, they found 52-year-old Darren Hughes fatally wounded. Despite frantic efforts by paramedics, Mr Hughes was pronounced dead at the scene.
In a chilling twist, Alfie Miller, 21, of Willow Drive, Durrington, has now been charged with his murder. He was immediately remanded in custody and is set to appear before Swindon Magistrates’ Court on Monday.
Heartbroken relatives of Darren Hughes are being supported by specially trained officers, Wiltshire Police confirmed in a statement.
A police cordon remained in place over the weekend as forensic teams combed the property for evidence, while neighbours expressed shock at the tragedy unfolding on their doorstep.
One local resident, who did not wish to be named, said:
“You just don’t expect something like this to happen here. It’s frightening. My thoughts are with the man’s family.”
Police have yet to reveal further details about what led to the stabbing, but assured the public that there is no wider threat to the community.
The investigation remains ongoing.
