Drink Driving Nightmare Ends Behind Bars
Jason Povey, who has no fixed address, pleaded guilty yesterday at Salisbury Magistrates’ Court to a string of offences: aggravated car theft, driving while banned, uninsured driving, and refusing to provide a breath specimen.
He was handed a four-month prison sentence and banned from the road for just over four years.
Chaos on the Streets
Things started on Monday night (13/10) when a member of the public spotted a suspected drink driver in Oatfields, Trowbridge.
Minutes later, police received reports of a damaged blue Kia Rio abandoned in a Marston Road car park. The car’s front offside tyre was shredded, and witnesses claimed they saw the vehicle sparking along the road.
Povey was found close by clutching a bottle of vodka and staggering on his feet.
Refused Test, Slapped with Multiple Charges
He refused to provide a specimen for analysis, leading to his arrest. Further investigation revealed he had taken the Kia without consent.
He was charged, remanded into custody, and now faces a lengthy driving ban alongside jail time.
Police Slam Reckless Behaviour
PC Layton from the Volume Crime Team said: “There is no excuse for Povey’s actions. Choosing to drive intoxicated is unacceptable and we take it very seriously. Thankfully, no one was hurt that night. We will not tolerate this behaviour and will keep prosecuting for the fatal five offences.”
