A 21-year-old man has appeared in court charged with murder following the death of a man at a home in Longhedge.

Alfie Miller, of Willow Drive, Durrington, was brought before Swindon Magistrates Court yesterday (6 May) charged with the killing of Darren Hughes, 52, who was found deceased inside a property on Davies Road on Friday (3 May).

Miller has been remanded in custody and is set to make his next appearance at Winchester Crown Court tomorrow (7 May).

Police have confirmed that specialist officers are supporting Mr Hughes’ devastated family, who have asked for privacy as they grieve their loss.

Residents in Longhedge can expect to see a continued heavy police presence in the area over the coming days as officers carry out further investigations.

A Wiltshire Police spokesperson said:
“Our thoughts remain with the family and friends of Darren Hughes at this incredibly difficult time. We respectfully ask that their privacy is observed.

The tragic incident has shocked the local community, with detectives continuing their appeal for anyone with information to come forward.
