A major road, the A2, was closed for several hours after a collision involving a police car and another vehicle.

The coastbound carriageway of the A2 was shut down following the incident, which occurred just past the Darenth Interchange at approximately 8:50 pm last night.

While no serious injuries were reported, a roadside barrier was damaged in the crash.

Authorities have launched investigations into the circumstances surrounding the incident. Importantly, it has been clarified that the other vehicle involved in the crash was not being pursued by the police.

National Highways confirmed the road closure at 9:30 pm, with updates stating that the carriageway had reopened just before 1:00 am in the early hours of this morning.

A police spokesman provided further details, stating, “At around 8:50 pm on Friday, a police car was involved in a collision with another car on the A2 coastbound just past the Darenth Interchange. The carriageway was closed for a period of time to allow for the recovery of the vehicles involved and for a roadside barrier to be repaired. No serious injuries were reported, and enquiries into the circumstances of the incident are ongoing.
