A 24-year-old man has been arrested after allegedly brandishing a kitchen knife in public on Glovers Lane, Netherton, early Saturday morning.

Merseyside Police responded to reports at around 8 a.m. on June 21 that a man was waving a knife in the street near the junction with St Jerome’s Way. According to witnesses, the man was seen pacing while holding the knife above his head before placing it into a bag.

Arrest and Charges

Responding officers arrived within minutes and arrested the suspect by 8:10 a.m. A search led to the discovery and seizure of two kitchen knives, which have since been sent for forensic analysis.

The suspect, a local Netherton resident, has been charged with affray, possession of a bladed article in a public place, and a public order offence. No injuries were reported, and no direct threats were made, but the event caused significant concern in the community.

Detective Inspector John Holden said: “Officers deployed made a swift arrest, and our investigation will seek to establish the full circumstances. While no verbal threats were made, the presence of a knife understandably caused alarm to the public.”

Community Safety Efforts

This incident forms part of Merseyside Police’s ongoing commitment to tackle knife crime, which remains a force priority. The force has reiterated the importance of public vigilance and urged residents to report any suspicious behaviour.
