Guildford’s Yvonne Arnaud Theatre Gets £2 Million Makeover
Guildford’s iconic Yvonne Arnaud Theatre has scored a massive £2 million boost from Your Fund Surrey, transforming it into a buzzing cultural and community hotspot. This facelift slashes barriers and upgrades facilities, ready to serve audiences and locals for decades to come.
Star-Studded 60th Birthday Bash
On 10 September, the theatre threw a glamorous 60th birthday party to unveil its stunning refurb. The event attracted VIPs, including His Royal Highness The Duke of Edinburgh, who enjoyed six decades of theatrical performances and toured newly accessible community spaces.
Accessibility and Community at the Core
- Brand-new accessible lift and toilets on every floor
- Flexible multi-purpose rooms for local groups
- Modernised front of house and ground-floor foyer
- Upgraded seating areas with accessible bars
These major upgrades, completed over two years, ensure the theatre remains a cultural jewel in Guildford and Surrey for the next 50 years.
Community Leaders Hail the Funding
“Your Fund Surrey is all about empowering residents to Make It Happen, investing in projects that leave a lasting impact,” said Denise Turner-Stewart, Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Communities. “We’re proud to make the arts more accessible. The Yvonne Arnaud Theatre is now a vibrant hub supporting future Surrey initiatives.”
Joanna Read, Theatre Director, added: “We can’t thank Surrey County Council enough for backing our vision to make the theatre accessible and sustainable. Our doors now open wider for everyone to enjoy the magic of theatre and arts.”
Your Fund Surrey: Driving Local Culture
Since its 2020 launch, Your Fund Surrey has poured cash into community spaces, cultural venues, and green projects, building stronger neighbourhoods county-wide. The £2 million grant to Yvonne Arnaud Theatre is its biggest single award yet, showing what’s possible when passion meets serious investment.
