Hydrogen Bus Erupts in Flames in Crawley Town Centre

Emergency crews rushed to Crawley this afternoon after a hydrogen-powered bus caught fire near the busy County Mall shopping centre.

Blaze Breaks Out on Zero-Emission Bus

West Sussex Fire and Rescue Service were called at 12.36pm to reports of a bus fire on Southgate Avenue. The vehicle is believed to be one of Metrobus’ hydrogen-powered, eco-friendly buses. Metrobus have been contacted for comment.

Firefighters Race to Contain Flames

“Joint Fire Control mobilised three fire engines and an aerial ladder platform to the scene. Upon arrival crews found a fire on a bus. Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus are working to extinguish the fire. People are being advised to avoid the area.”

The blaze was quickly brought under control with no injuries reported. The busy shopping street faced disruption as emergency services tackled the fire, with the public urged to steer clear of Southgate Avenue.
