A major search off the West Sussex coast has ended this evening (Thursday) after an empty vessel was found aground at Felpham beach.

The alarm was raised at around 5pm, with HM Coastguard coordinating the response. Coastguard Rescue Teams from Littlehampton and Selsey, the RNLI Selsey lifeboat, and an HM Coastguard rescue helicopter were all deployed.

Unconfirmed reports suggest the vessel’s skipper was found in the sea during the operation, with it believed he may have accidentally fallen overboard.

No further details have been released, updates as we get them.
