Fire Breaks Out at HMP Wandsworth in London

A fire broke out at HMP Wandsworth, one of London’s largest and most troubled prisons, on Monday afternoon (14th October 2024). Emergency services were called to the scene at Heathfield Road, where a blaze had ignited in a cell located in C Wing within the prison complex.

Fire crews were met on arrival by prison staff who had attempted to put out the blaze using a hose installed within the wing.. The extent of the damage and the cause of the fire have not yet been confirmed. No injuries have been reported at this time, but authorities are continuing to assess the situation.

HMP Wandsworth has faced numerous challenges in recent years, including overcrowding and safety concerns. This latest incident is expected to prompt further scrutiny of the facility’s conditions.
