Life Sentence for Man Who Stabbed 72-Year-Old in Worthing Home

In a tragic case that shook the Worthing community, 46-year-old Sukhkit Bains has been sentenced to life in prison for the murder of his acquaintance, Michael Martin, aged 72. The violent attack occurred at Mr. Martin’s residence on St Botolph’s Road in March. Isleworth Crown Court sentenced Bains to a minimum of 22 years behind bars before he can be considered for parole. Mr. Martin, a beloved father and grandfather, was discovered with fatal stab wounds and assault injuries after family members expressed concern for his wellbeing.

After the murder, Bains attempted to conceal his crime by altering the crime scene, cleaning evidence, and misleading Mr. Martin’s family, who later found his body. Detective Inspector Amanda Zinyama from the Surrey and Sussex Major Crime Team condemned Bains’ actions, highlighting the “sustained and violent” nature of the attack. Mr. Martin’s grieving family remembered him as a caring father and grandfather who was “their hero,” expressing their profound sense of loss.
