Set to Stand Trial Just Two Days After His Death

A 72-year-old man from Margate, Kent, found dead at the base of a Cornish cliff was due to face trial on child sex offence charges just days later.

Massive Emergency Response in Cornwall

David John Grover’s body was discovered on November 22 at Mousehole, Cornwall, sparking a huge emergency operation. Police, coastguard cliff rescue teams, RNLI crews, and ambulance services searched the area after concerns were raised about a man spotted near the cliff path.

Trial Date Set Before Sudden Death

Grover was scheduled to appear at Canterbury Crown Court on November 24. He faced multiple allegations including indecent assault, sexual assault, and inciting a child to engage in sexual activity. His case was listed publicly but has since been removed following court enquiries.

“The case is currently at a sensitive stage and we cannot provide any further information. The next hearing date is currently yet to be fixed.” – Canterbury Crown Court spokesperson

Investigation Continues, Death Not Treated as Suspicious

Devon and Cornwall Police have confirmed Grover’s death is not being treated as suspicious. A full inquest is planned for next year to determine the cause of death. Kent Police declined to comment on the matter.

The coroner’s inquest was opened and adjourned on November 27. Authorities continue to prepare for a full investigation into the circumstances surrounding Grover’s death.
