Young Karate Champion Anojan Gnaneswaran Tragically Killed

The family of 21-year-old Anojan Gnaneswaran, who tragically lost his life at Strawberry Hill railway station on January 8, 2024, has released a heartrending tribute to their beloved son and brother. Anojan was discovered by police officers with a severe stab wound just before midnight and regrettably passed away at the scene.

In their statement, the grieving family said, “Anojan was a much-loved son and brother, and we are devastated that his young life has been ended in this way. He was in his third year at university, studying accounting and finance, and he was so excited for his future.”

The talented young man excelled in sports and had achieved a first-dan black belt in karate. His martial arts prowess took him to compete in the World and European championships in karate. The family expressed their profound sorrow and noted, “We will all miss him so much.

In light of their loss, the family has requested privacy as they come to terms with the tragedy.

Two individuals, aged 19 and 21, have been arrested in connection with Anojan’s death. This development follows the release under investigation of a 15-year-old boy and two men aged 19 and 20. Additionally, a 16-year-old boy has been released on bail.

Detective Inspector Paul Attwell, the senior investigating officer, conveyed his condolences to Anojan Gnaneswaran’s family, saying, “My thoughts are with Mr Gnaneswaran’s family and loved ones at such a difficult time.

The investigation into this heartbreaking incident remains ongoing, and authorities encourage anyone with information to come forward. They can do so by texting 61016 or calling 0800 405040, quoting reference 630 of 08/01/24.
