Authorities are appealing for witnesses and individuals with information that can help identify the off-road bikers involved in a serious assault on a park ranger near Langsett Reservoir in Barnsley. The incident occurred on Sunday, September 24 at approximately 12:30 BST
According to reports, the park ranger was on duty at the reservoir when he was approached by a large group of off-road bikers. It is alleged that the ranger attempted to intervene and halt the riders. During this encounter, an altercation took place, resulting in a severe assault on the park ranger. The ranger was rendered unconscious and suffered a broken jaw.
Following the assault, the riders fled the scene, heading towards Brook House Lane and subsequently onto the A616.
Sergeant Shirley of the Off-Road Bike Team expressed the authorities’ desire to identify the individuals seen in the released video footage. They are requesting the cooperation of these riders to aid in their ongoing investigation.
“We’re also appealing to anyone who may have been in the area at the time or witnessed the assault,” added Sergeant Shirley.
Authorities are urging anyone with information to come forward and provide assistance. They can do so by contacting the police online, via live chat, or by calling 101 and quoting incident number 417 of September 24, 2023. An online portal has also been made available for individuals to provide information.
