Victim Named and Pictured in Streatham Fire Murder Investigation as Basilio Dos Santos Antonio,

Detectives leading the investigation into the tragic death of a man in a fire incident in Streatham have identified the victim as Basilio Dos Santos Antonio, aged 49. Mr. Dos Santos Antonio was discovered deceased inside a residential property located on Glenister Park Road on the evening of Sunday, February 25.

Detective Chief Inspector Kate Blackburn, spearheading the inquiry, expressed condolences, stating, “Basilio, who was originally from Brazil, had been in the UK for several years and worked as a cleaner. Our thoughts are with his family and friends as they continue to come to terms with their loss.

The investigation took a significant turn with the charging of two individuals linked to Basilio’s demise. Mayara Loiola Ataide, 34, and Gevaldo Tavares Dos Santos, 46, both of no fixed address, were charged with murder and two counts of arson with intent to endanger life on Wednesday, February 28.

Appearing in custody at the Old Bailey on Friday, March 1, both defendants were further remanded in custody. Their trial date has been scheduled for January 2, 2025.

Authorities initiated the investigation following a distress call to a multi-occupancy house on Glenister Park Road received from the London Fire Brigade at 19:07hrs on Sunday, February 25. Upon arrival, Basilio Dos Santos Antonio was discovered deceased within the property. His next of kin were notified and are receiving support from family liaison officers.
