Urgent ‘Do Not Eat’ Warning for Pasta Sauce
Urgent ‘Do Not Eat’ Warning for Pasta Sauce

An urgent “do not eat” warning has been issued after a popular pasta sauce was recalled from supermarket shelves over fears that some jars could contain shards of glass.

The Food Standards Agency (FSA) has announced the recall of Organico’s Organic Alla Norma Sauce, a blend of aubergines, tomatoes, and garlic, after safety concerns were raised.

Product Details:

  • Brand: Organico
  • Product: Organic Alla Norma Sauce
  • Batch Number: 140227
  • Best Before Date: February 14, 2027
  • Sold At: Including but not limited to Ocado

Organico has advised customers:

“Please do not consume. Return the product to the retailer for a full refund. If the retailer does not accept returns, please contact us directly.”

While Organico apologised for the inconvenience, no explanation has been given as to how the glass contamination occurred.

Safety Alert for Consumers

The FSA stressed:

If you have bought this sauce, do not eat it. Return it to the store for a full refund.

Point-of-sale notices are being displayed at all outlets where the affected batch was sold to inform shoppers of the recall and provide guidance.

Food recalls are triggered when products pose risks such as contamination, mislabelling, or undeclared allergens, all of which can lead to serious health concerns.

Growing Trend of Food Recalls

This incident adds to a rising trend of food product recalls in the UK, including:

  • Morrisons’ Cumberland sausages recalled over plastic contamination
  • Tesco’s Sandwich Pickle and Crosta & Mollica sauces pulled from shelves
  • Newcastle Brown Ale and Lidl’s potato salads recalled for contamination concerns
  • Iceland’s Vegetable Lasagne withdrawn over hard plastic fragment fears

Experts warn that even small fragments of glass or plastic can pose significant risks, such as mouth injuries, choking, or internal damage if swallowed.

What To Do If You Purchased the Product

If you have the affected sauce at home:

  • Do not consume it.
  • Return it to the store for a full refund — no receipt needed.
  • Contact Organico directly if you experience issues with returns.

Consumers are also encouraged to regularly check the goverment FSA website for the latest food recall alerts to stay informed.
