Urgent Appeal: Police Hunt Bingley Assault Suspect After Taxi Driver Attack

West Yorkshire Police have launched an urgent appeal to identify a man in connection with a violent assault on a taxi driver in Bingley. The incident, which occurred on Littlelands at around 3:30am on Saturday, 12 April 2025, left the victim with facial injuries and his vehicle damaged.

Taxi Driver Assaulted Over Fare Dispute

According to Bradford District Police, the assault followed a dispute between the driver and a male passenger over a fare. The suspect reportedly punched the driver, causing facial injuries, and damaged the taxi before fleeing the scene on foot.

The taxi driver was treated for his injuries and is recovering. Police are treating the case as a serious assault, and an active investigation is underway.

A 2022 report by the Department for Transport flagged rising concerns over taxi driver safety and recommended the introduction of in-car CCTV and emergency alert systems—measures that could prove vital in cases like this.

CCTV Images Released of Bingley Assault Suspect

Officers have released clear CCTV images of a man they urgently want to speak with in connection with the assault. The images were captured near the scene in the early hours of the morning.

A police spokesperson said:

“This was a violent and unacceptable attack on a person providing an essential public service. We are appealing to the public to help us identify the man in the CCTV images, who may be able to assist with our enquiries.”

Members of the public who recognise the man or who may have witnessed the incident are urged to contact Bradford Patrol Team 5, quoting crime reference number 13250205154.

Public Support Critical to Investigation

Police say public tips are crucial in moving the case forward. A similar 2025 investigation in Cheshire was solved after an anonymous tip identified the suspect in an assault case.
