Man in His 20s Dies After Walker Road Collision

Northumbria Police have launched an urgent witness appeal following a fatal motorcycle crash on Walker Road in Newcastle on the evening of Tuesday, 20 May 2025.

At around 7:45 PM, emergency services were called to the scene near Belmont Court, where a man riding a white Honda CR motocross bike lost control and collided with roadside railings. Despite the swift arrival of paramedics, the rider, a man in his 20s, was tragically pronounced dead at the scene.

Road Closure and Ongoing Investigation

Walker Road was closed for several hours between Pottery Bank and Belmont Court, a key commuter stretch frequently used by both vehicles and pedestrians. The crash has sparked a full investigation by Northumbria Police’s collision unit, with Sergeant Craig Bartle urging the public to assist.

“This is a busy stretch of road and we know people were in the area at the time. Any dashcam footage or eyewitness accounts could be vital in piecing together the full circumstances,” Sgt Bartle said.

Road Safety Context

This fatal collision comes amid rising concerns over motorcycle safety. According to the Department for Transport, motorcyclists account for nearly one in five road fatalities in the UK despite making up just 1% of total traffic.

The Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA) lists loss of control as a leading factor, often linked to speed, poor road surfaces, or rider inexperience. Urban roads like Walker Road — with junctions, railings, and bus stops — present added hazards.

Community Reacts

On X (formerly Twitter), Newcastle residents expressed sadness and support for the victim’s family. One user wrote, “Devastating news about the Walker Road motorbike crash. Hoping someone checks their CCTV.” Another added, “We walk there daily. Can’t believe this happened.”
