Urgent Alert for Horse Owners Following Gruesome Discovery in Worksop

Horse owners in North Nottinghamshire are being advised to remain vigilant after a horrific incident where a horse was found dead and mutilated in a field near Worksop. The tragic event took place at a property off Owday Lane, Carlton-in-Lindrick, where sixteen-year-old Alfie, a traditional tri-coloured cob, was discovered around 10:30 am on Thursday, 25 July.

Alfie was last seen by his owner in good health at approximately 7 pm the previous evening. The circumstances surrounding the incident have shocked the local community, prompting an intensive police investigation. Nottinghamshire Police, led by Chief Inspector Clive Collings, who specializes in rural and wildlife crime, are currently reviewing CCTV footage, conducting forensic examinations, and performing house-to-house inquiries to gather more information.

Chief Inspector Collings expressed his dismay at the incident, describing it as “a sickening, heartless assault on a defenceless animal.” He urged the public to come forward with any information that might help in their investigation. The police are particularly interested in doorbell camera footage or any observations of suspicious activity between 7 pm on Wednesday and 10:30 am on Thursday.

The force has issued a warning to horse owners in the area to take extra precautions in light of this appalling crime. They encourage anyone with information, no matter how small, to contact Nottinghamshire Police on 101, quoting incident number 244 of 25 July 2024. The community and local authorities are working closely to prevent any further incidents and to bring those responsible to justice.
