Emergency services were called to the scene at approximately just before 2am on Thursday, 19 September 2024.

Firefighters set up a safe area of work on Forest Road to coordinate their efforts. The large fire is well developed indicating the significant resources and efforts needed to control it.

Residents and businesses in the surrounding area are advised to avoid the location and follow any guidance from emergency services.

A spokesman for the London Fire Brigade said: Twelve fire engines and around 80 firefighters are tackling a fire at a commercial building on Forest Road in Ilford.

Half of the first floor of a two-storey building consisting of a gym and a restaurant is alight.
The Brigade’s Control Officers have taken five calls to the fire and used GoodSam to live stream incident footage from smartphone cameras to provide better situational awareness.
When a 999 call is received by the Brigade, the caller may be asked if they would like to provide a live video stream of the scene using their smartphone. The Control Officer will send a text message with a secure, one-time-use link that opens a live stream directly from the phone to the Control room.
The Brigade was called at 0154. Fire crews from Hainault, Romford, Dagenham, Woodford and surrounding fire stations are at the scene.
The cause of the fire is not known at this time.
