The UK is expected to experience more hot weather over the coming week, with the Met Office forecasting temperatures to reach highs of 26C and 27C.
Friday, July 19, marked the hottest day of the year so far, with St James’s Park in central London recording a scorching 31.9C. However, the weekend brought some respite as clouds returned, bringing drier weather on Sunday, July 21, with temperatures staying around the July average of 20C.
Met Office Forecasts More Hot Weather
Craig Snell, a meteorologist at the Met Office, told the PA news agency that the east of the country is likely to see a “grey start” to Sunday, while the south will see temperatures reach the high teens. As the day progresses, most of the country “will see dry and bright spells.”
Looking into next week, rain is expected to move in from the west on Monday. The north of England, Scotland, and Northern Ireland will experience wet spells, while the south will largely remain untouched by rain.
Warmer Weather Ahead
The weather is likely to settle down on Tuesday and Wednesday, with temperatures starting to climb in some areas. In the south, temperatures could reach as high as 26C or 27C in a few spots.
Thursday is expected to be wet before conditions settle down again heading into the weekend.
Craig Snell’s Outlook
Mr. Snell provided an overview of the upcoming weather, saying: “It won’t be wall-to-wall sunshine, and we’ll see rain in the north on Monday and the rest of the country on Thursday. It also won’t be as hot as recent days but warmer than the start to July. It will be an improvement.”
He added, “Overall, the southeast and south are likely to see the warmest temperatures next week.”
