In a recent court hearing at the High Court in Edinburgh, two men were sentenced to jail following an attempted murder in the Paton Drive area of Larbert. Liam Mathewson, aged 23, received a 10-year sentence, while Connor Swanston, aged 24, was sentenced to seven years.

The incident occurred on Saturday, 25 June, 2022, at approximately 18.45 when a 36-year-old man was viciously attacked within a flat. As a result of the brutal assault, the victim sustained severe injuries to his head and upper body, necessitating his immediate transfer via air ambulance to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow.

Detective Inspector John Currie, who led the investigation, expressed his concern over the alarming level of violence displayed during the attack. He stated, “This was a particularly violent attack that left a man in the hospital with serious injuries to his head and upper body which could have cost him his life.”

Detective Inspector Currie added, “Mathewson and Swanston will now face the consequences of their behaviour, and I hope that the sentence brings the victim some kind of comfort.”
