Two Teenagers Charged with Arson for Setting Fire to Parked Cars in Tonbridge

The charges stem from incidents that occurred outside residential properties in The Chase, where three vehicles were engulfed in flames. The emergency services, including Kent Fire and Rescue Service, responded to the scene shortly after receiving reports around 12:20 am on May 18, 2023.

Upon arrival, officers made arrests and initiated an investigation into the arson attacks. The probe, led by the Tonbridge Victim Based Crime unit, sought to establish the circumstances surrounding the fires and identify those responsible.

After a thorough investigation and collaboration with the Crown Prosecution Service, Kent Police obtained authorization to charge both suspects involved in the arson incidents. The teenagers, whose identities have not been disclosed due to legal reasons, face three counts of arson with recklessness as to whether life was endangered.

The suspects, who are currently on bail under specified conditions, are scheduled to appear before the Medway Youth Court on June 6 to answer the charges against them.

The community of Tonbridge has been reassured by the swift action taken by law enforcement agencies to address the arson attacks and bring those responsible to justice. Further updates on the legal proceedings will be provided as they become available.
