Training Excercise turns to a rescue for Cowes lifeboat

Cowes lifeboat launched on exercise yesterday evening to practice towing. The exercise became a rescue at 19:45. Two yachts racing from Cowes had gone aground on the Bramble Bank, midway between the Island and Hampshire. When the lifeboat arrived one yacht freed itself but the other remained stuck fast. By using the yacht’s crew to lean the vessel over the lifeboat crew were able to pull the vessel off the sand and then put it in an alongside tow back to Cowes. The helm turned out for the teatime shout out and after a quick tea was back at the station resulting in a long evening of volunteering.
