A devastating single-vehicle crash on the A417 in Gloucestershire has claimed the life of Harley Pearce, son of former England football captain Stuart Pearce MBE.
Horror Crash on Birdlip Hill
Harley, in his 20s, died instantly when the tractor he was driving suffered a tyre blowout near Witcombe on Birdlip Hill. The vehicle went out of control, and emergency services pronounced him dead at the scene.
Heartbreaking Tribute From Family
“Our family is truly shocked and utterly heartbroken at the loss of our cherished son and devoted brother, Harley. A soul who left an unforgettable imprint on all who knew him. He was a golden boy with an infectious smile. This shocking tragedy leaves a huge hole in the hearts of those fortunate enough to know him. With quiet strength and deep kindness, we are proud of the young man he became—hardworking and entrepreneurial in farming. He will always be our shining star. Rest in peace, our beautiful son and brother. You will never be forgotten.”
Legacy of a Football Legend
Harley was the son of Stuart Pearce, who captained England nine times. The football legend, also from Shalbourne in east Wiltshire, survived a horrific lorry crash in 1998 and more recently endured a medical emergency onboard a plane that he shared on ITV’s This Morning.
Harley ran his own farming business, Harley Pearce Agricultural Services, helping farms across Wiltshire, Berkshire, and Hampshire.
Police Appeal for Witnesses
The A417 was closed for 15 hours while specialist officers conducted forensic investigations. Gloucestershire Constabulary confirmed Harley’s next of kin have been informed and are being supported.
Investigators urge anyone who witnessed the crash or has dashcam footage to come forward. You can share information via the police online form, quoting incident 284 of 16 October.
This tragedy has shocked the local community and the football world alike.
