In a devastating incident, a car crashed into a girls’ prep school building in Wimbledon, resulting in the tragic death of a child. Several children and adults were also injured as a Land Rover collided with the school premises. The Metropolitan Police have confirmed that a woman in her 40s has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.
The child who lost her life at the scene was eight years old, according to Met Police Detective Chief Superintendent Clair Kelland. The arrested woman remains in police custody as the investigation unfolds. Det Chief Supt Kelland urged the public to refrain from speculation while law enforcement officers diligently work to understand the full circumstances surrounding the incident.
Emphasising that the incident is not being treated as a terror-related event, Det Chief Supt Kelland encourages the public to provide any information they may have. Witness testimonies have already been collected as part of the ongoing investigation.
Emergency services swiftly responded to the scene, providing immediate medical assistance. Sixteen patients received treatment at the crash site, while ten individuals are currently being treated in the hospital. The severity of their injuries has not been disclosed at this time.
