A person has sadly died after being struck by a train at Penge East station in south-east London on the evening of Tuesday, April 29, 2025.
Emergency services were called to the station at around 9:55pm following reports of a person on the tracks. Officers from British Transport Police (BTP) and paramedics from London Ambulance Service responded swiftly, but the person was pronounced dead at the scene. Fire crewws from the London Fire Brigade were also scrambled to assist with the incident
A spokesperson for BTP said:
“We were called to Penge East station at 9.55hrs on Tuesday, April 29 following reports that a person had been struck by a train. Sadly, a person was pronounced deceased at the scene.
The incident is not being treated as suspicious, and a file will be prepared for the coroner.”
Shocked Passengers and Evacuations
Several witnesses on the platform were visibly distressed. Emergency crews evacuated the station while responding to the tragic incident.
One commuter, Emile Facey, described the aftermath on social media:
“If you’re heading to Penge East, look for alternative routes. A major incident just happened. There were shocked people everywhere.”
Disruption to Rail Services
Train services through Penge East were suspended on Tuesday evening, with Southeastern and Thameslink routes affected. Rail operators advised passengers to check travel updates and expect delays.

Specialist officers are supporting the woman’s next of kin. The British Transport Police has also ensured emotional and mental health support is available to affected passengers and rail staff.
