Thug Jailed for Hurling Missiles at Police During Middlesbrough Summer Riots

A man who threw missiles at police officers during the summer riots in Middlesbrough has been jailed for 30 months.

Harry Waugh, 26, of Plumer Drive, Stockton, was caught on CCTV engaging in violent disorder during the unrest, which swept across parts of the UK earlier this year.

Footage captured Waugh charging at a line of officers, shouting abuse, and aggressively pointing while throwing objects at police, who were using shields to protect themselves. At one point, Waugh was struck in the face by a rock thrown by another rioter but returned shortly after to continue his tirade of abuse.

The disorder escalated further when Waugh was seen assaulting another man during a fight in a nearby park.

Investigation and Arrest

Following intelligence gathered by the Operation Acorn investigation team, Waugh was identified and arrested. He was subsequently charged with violent disorder.

Waugh appeared at Teesside Crown Court on Wednesday, December 18, where he pleaded guilty to the charges against him. The court sentenced him to 30 months in prison.

Police Statement

A spokesperson for Cleveland Police said:

The actions of individuals like Harry Waugh during the Middlesbrough riots were not only reckless but also put officers and members of the public at significant risk. This sentence demonstrates that such behavior will not be tolerated, and we will continue to pursue justice against those responsible for violent and disorderly conduct.”

The investigation into the summer riots, which caused widespread disruption and damage, remains ongoing as authorities continue to review CCTV footage and gather evidence against other participants.

Public Urged to Come Forward

Police have appealed to the public to report any information regarding individuals involved in the disorder, emphasizing the importance of community support in bringing perpetrators to justice.
