An investigation spanning six years, involving meticulous analysis of CCTV footage and mobile phone records, has concluded with the conviction of a third man for the murder of a young man in 2018.
Kyle Gordon, 24, from Enfield, was convicted of the murder of 23-year-old Russell and sentenced to 28 years in prison at the Old Bailey on Thursday, 14 March.
Detective Sergeant Joanne Donoghue, from the Met’s Specialist Crime North Homicide Team, described the attack as “wicked” and “ferocious,” noting that the group armed themselves with weapons before targeting the victims, who were not affiliated with any gangs.
The incident occurred in the early hours of 17 March 2018, when Russell Jordan Jones and his friends were approached by a group of men wearing dark clothing and masks. Russell was fatally stabbed and shot during the attack, while another victim sustained knife wounds.
Despite the efforts of paramedics, Russell was pronounced dead at the scene.
Gordon had previously faced trial at the Old Bailey, where the jury failed to reach a verdict. However, during the retrial on Monday, 11 March, he was found guilty of murder, causing grievous bodily harm to a second victim, and possession of a firearm.
DS Donoghue commended Russell’s family for their patience and dignity throughout the lengthy legal proceedings, expressing hope that they find solace in knowing that justice has been served.
Two other individuals had previously been convicted of Russell’s murder in January 2019, receiving sentences of 29 years each. Additionally, a third man convicted in June 2023 was sentenced to life imprisonment with a minimum term of 25 years.
