Major Disruption on Thameslink Line After Person Hit by Train Between London and St Albans

Train passengers faced major disruption today after a person was hit by a train on the Thameslink line between London St Pancras and Luton, causing widespread delays and cancellations across key commuter routes including St Albans, Radlett, and Harpenden.

The incident occurred earlier this morning, prompting an immediate response from Network Rail and the emergency services. Thameslink confirmed that all lines were temporarily blocked as a result, leading to major delays and the suspension of several services.

By 12:12pm, Thameslink confirmed that all lines had reopened, but warned that residual delays would continue throughout the afternoon.

“All lines have now reopened, and we will be working to restore trains to a normal timetable over the next few hours,” a Thameslink spokesperson posted on X (formerly Twitter). “However, services will remain disrupted. Passengers should check their journeys before travelling and allow plenty of extra time.”

The operator advised that some trains may terminate or start from different stations than scheduled, with cancelled stops also likely.

Earlier, Thameslink advised travellers to delay their journeys if possible and to allow at least 45 minutes of extra time for essential trips.

Live tracking maps showed congestion and disruption across the route, with services running irregularly between St Pancras, St Albans, and Luton.

The nature of the incident was confirmed by Thameslink, stating that a person had been struck by a train, though no further details have been released. Emergency responders were on the scene for several hours, coordinating with railway staff to investigate and clear the tracks.
