In a tragic case that has shocked the community, a teenage girl has been charged with infanticide after the lifeless body of a baby boy was discovered in New Eltham.
The 16-year-old girl is accused of causing the death of her child on January 29 of the previous year. It is alleged that she left the infant outside in harsh winter conditions without appropriate clothing.
Infanticide, as defined by law, occurs when a woman, due to a disturbed state of mind resulting from not having fully recovered from childbirth or the effects of lactation, causes the death of her baby through a deliberate act or omission.
The accused teenager is scheduled to appear at a court in south London on Friday, July 14, where the charges will be presented.
