On December 2 last year, emergency services rushed to Newmarket Green, Eltham, following a horrific hit-and-run. A teenage boy on an e-bike was slammed by a car and left with life-threatening injuries, including a fractured skull and serious leg damage.
Driver Charged Over Brutal Attack
Robin Horvath, 19, from Old Farm Avenue, was quickly identified as the driver. Initially charged with attempted murder, his charge was later downgraded to causing grievous bodily harm with intent. Horvath pleaded guilty and faced Woolwich Crown Court on October 3 for sentencing.
Judge Brands Crash ‘Deliberate and Dangerous’
Judge Ben Gumpert KC said Horvath “plainly used his car as a lethal weapon to deliberately run down” the boy.
However, the judge admitted there wasn’t enough medical evidence to fully assess the victim’s injuries. The teenager had reportedly been “very difficult” and uncooperative with hospital staff, complicating treatment and assessment efforts.
Sentencing Delayed — Lengthy Jail Term Looms
Judge Gumpert has ordered the Crown to gather more medical info before passing sentence. Horvath is set to return to Woolwich Crown Court on December 8. The judge warned that he faces a “lengthy sentence of imprisonment.”
