In a deeply disturbing incident, a 15-year-old boy has been apprehended in connection with the heart-wrenching demise of 14 innocent lambs after a car was intentionally driven into a field. The appalling event unfolded at a farm situated in Bramley, near Guildford, during the night between February 17 and 18, as reported by Surrey Police.
The teenage suspect, a resident of Redhill, has been taken into custody on suspicion of two counts of criminal damage. Subsequently, he has been released on bail, with a further investigation pending, according to a police spokesperson.
The horrifying sequence of events involved a vehicle purportedly gaining unauthorized access to the property, causing damage to a gate in the process, and then heartlessly employed to run over the helpless lambs.
Nick Hutley, the proprietor of the lambs at Gate Street Farm, expressed his profound shock and dismay, characterizing the incident as “mindless” and “simply crazy.” Tragically, a total of 12 lambs were found lifeless in the field, with an additional two lambs having to be humanely euthanized due to the severity of their injuries.
These lambs, all less than a year old, were part of a larger group of 50 sheep that were peacefully grazing in the field.
Sergeant Phil Bayman, the lead investigator overseeing the case, noted that the incident was “extremely unusual” and had caused “considerable distress,” not only to the farm owner but also to the wider community.
Surrey Police have issued a heartfelt plea to potential witnesses or individuals possessing information relevant to the incident, especially if they have come across a damaged vehicle in the vicinity. Authorities are urging anyone with knowledge of the matter to come forward promptly and assist with their ongoing inquiries. This appalling act of cruelty towards defenceless animals has sent shockwaves throughout the local community.
