Sussex Police Investigating Arson, Harassment and Weapon Offences at Brighton Council Depot

Sussex Police has confirmed it is actively investigating a series of serious offences linked to Brighton and Hove City Council’s Hollingdean depot, dating from 2023 to 2025.

The offences under scrutiny include criminal damage, possession of offensive weapons, harassment, arson, and other serious criminal matters. The ongoing investigation has been formally named Operation Senate.

Some Cases Closed, Others Ongoing

While some individual cases have been closed due to lack of further investigative leads, multiple investigations remain active or are still in their early stages, according to police.

Chief Superintendent Rachel Carr, divisional commander for Brighton and Hove, said:

“The matters that have been reported to us are of a very serious and concerning nature. We have ensured appropriate resource is in place to conduct thorough investigations into all reported incidents and would urge any witnesses or anyone with information relating to these matters to come forward.”

Correction and Apology Issued

Sussex Police has also issued a formal apology for an earlier public statement which incorrectly implied all investigations had been concluded.

“We apologise for this and any distress caused,” Chief Superintendent Carr added.

Due to operational sensitivities, specific details about the incidents have not been released. However, the force said all matters remain under continual review.
