A major road outside Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Woolwich was temporarily closed today following reports of a suspicious item, prompting a swift response from the Met Police.
The incident unfolded at Stadium Way in Woolwich, with officers from the Metropolitan Police rushing to the scene around midday on February 12.
Upon arrival, police swiftly took action, closing off the main entrance of the hospital along with the adjacent road, as a precautionary measure.
In a statement posted on social media platform X (formerly known as Twitter), Lewisham and Greenwich NHS Trust confirmed the closure, urging the public to steer clear of the area while the incident was being addressed.
The situation caused understandable concern among residents, particularly given the proximity of the hospital. However, authorities worked diligently to ensure the safety of all individuals involved.
Fortunately, after a thorough assessment, the suspicious item was determined to be non-threatening. Subsequently, all closures were lifted, and normal access to the hospital and Stadium Road resumed.
In a subsequent update, Lewisham and Greenwich NHS Trust expressed gratitude for the swift response of the police and announced the conclusion of their operations at the scene.
A spokesperson for the Metropolitan Police confirmed that the item in question, initially deemed suspicious, posed no risk to the public. They further assured that the incident had been resolved without incident.
