Detectives in Dalkeith have launched an investigation into a suspicious fire that occurred at a local soft play centre. The incident has prompted authorities to appeal for information from the public.
The fire took place at the Saltire soft play centre located at Mayfield Industrial Estate. The incident unfolded between 11.30pm and 11.45pm on Saturday, August 12, 2023.
The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service acted swiftly to extinguish the fire, preventing further damage to the property.
Detective Constable Russell Taylor of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) commented on the ongoing investigation, stating, “We are treating the fire as wilful, and our inquiries are ongoing.” The authorities are focused on uncovering the circumstances and individuals responsible for the incident.
In an effort to gather crucial information, investigators are particularly interested in tracing a man who was spotted in the vicinity at the time of the incident. The individual was reportedly dressed in black attire. Authorities believe that his presence and actions may hold key insights into the events leading up to the fire.
Detective Constable Russell Taylor urged individuals who were driving in the area during the specified timeframe and may have dashcam footage to come forward. The footage could potentially provide valuable clues to aid the ongoing investigation.
