Teenager Charged Following Attempted Robberies in Sheerness

Detectives have charged a teenage boy suspected of stealing a car during a robbery in Chatham. On Saturday 24 February 2024, a motorist who had parked his car in Batchelor Street was approached by a person he did not know as he returned to the vehicle.

The car owner was then allegedly threatened with a knife and, fearing he would be harmed, handed over his vehicle keys. The victim’s car was then reportedly stolen and the police were alerted.

Investigators from the Kent Crime Squad completed immediate enquiries into the incident, including the examination of CCTV, and on Wednesday 28 February, a suspect was arrested in James Street, Gillingham.

A 17-year-old boy from Gillingham was later charged with robbery and possession of a knife in a public place. The teenager appeared before Medway Magistrates’ Court on Friday 1 March. He was remanded to a hearing at Medway Youth Court on Thursday 7 March.
