Detectives have launched a murder investigation following the discovery of a body in Bermondsey.

Police were called to Canute Gardens, SE16, at 20.23hrs on Wednesday, 1 March to reports of a concern for welfare.

Officers attended and forced entry to the property. The body of a 46-year-old woman was found. The woman’s next of kin have been informed.

A 53-year-old man inside the property was also found injured. He was arrested on suspicion of murder before being treated at the scene by paramedics from London Ambulance Service and then taken to hospital. He was discharged following treatment and remains in custody at a south London police station.

Homicide detectives from the Met’s Specialist Crime Command have been informed. A crime scene has been put in place.

The man and the woman are believed to be known to each other.

Enquiries into the circumstances are ongoing.
