The National Highways have issued an amber severe weather alert for gales expected to hit the southern region of the country, starting from Sunday at 21:00 (9:00 PM) until Monday at 03:00 (3:00 AM).

Road users in the South East of England are strongly advised to prepare for potential travel disruptions during this period.

Storm Isha is forecasted to bring very strong southwesterly winds to the South East regions, particularly during the early hours of Monday, January 22nd. The gusts are expected to frequently reach speeds of 50-60 mph, and possibly even reach 70 mph at times. Along exposed coastal stretches, there is a heightened risk of gusts reaching 80 mph intermittently. The weather system will gradually shift to westerly winds by mid-morning on Monday, with conditions expected to ease.

The authorities have emphasized a particularly high risk for high-sided vehicles and other “vulnerable” vehicles, such as caravans and motorbikes, to be affected by the strong winds. These vehicles are at risk of being blown over in the adverse weather conditions.
