WIND WARNING Storm Benjamin to Slam UK with 75mph Winds and Torrential Rain

Brace yourselves! Storm Benjamin is gearing up to wreak havoc across the UK tomorrow with fierce winds reaching 75mph and relentless downpours. The Met Office has already slapped on three yellow weather warnings warning of chaos ahead.

Where and When Will Storm Benjamin Strike?

The wet and wild weather is set to hit on Thursday, threatening travel disruption, flooding, power cuts, and structural damage. A yellow warning for heavy rain covers most of southern England, the East Midlands, parts of Wales, and Yorkshire. The alert stays active until 9 pm Thursday.

Heavy rain will begin Wednesday evening, with some areas expecting up to 50mm by Thursday morning. The relentless downpours could flood homes, businesses, and roads, causing hazardous driving conditions and public transport delays.

Batten Down! What Winds Can You Expect?

  • Most affected regions brace for gusts up to 55mph. Coastal spots could see winds ramping up to 65mph.
  • A separate yellow wind warning runs from 9am to midnight Thursday across eastern England up to Scarborough, where ferocious gusts might hit 75mph.
  • Southwest England and parts of Wales, including Somerset, Devon, Cornwall, Swansea, and Pembrokeshire, face winds of 45-60mph, especially along coasts and headlands.

The Met Office warns these strong winds can cause power cuts, disrupt transport, and damage buildings. Dangerous waves may toss debris onto coastal roads, risking injuries and threats to life.

Weekend Outlook: Storm Benjamin Blows Over

Thankfully, the worst weather moves out by Friday. Clearer skies and cooler temperatures are expected nationwide, though it will feel chillier than usual thanks to the recent rain.

Who Named Storm Benjamin?

The name comes from the UK’s storm naming system designed to raise public awareness and preparedness. The Met Office and other European meteorological agencies collaborate to assign memorable names to major storms.
