Families Release Photos of Elderly Couple Killed in St Helens Arson Attack as Police Launch Urgent Appeal

The families of an elderly couple who tragically died in a suspected arson attack have released photographs of their loved ones, as Merseyside Police intensify their appeal for information.

Peter Eric Greener, 77, and Sheila Jackson, 83, died following a deliberate fire set at their home on South John Street in St Helens on the night of Tuesday, 15 July.

Emergency services rushed to the property, but despite their efforts, both victims were pronounced dead at the scene.

Merseyside Police confirmed the couple had been in a long-term relationship and were well-known in the local community. Detectives have now launched a full murder and arson investigation.

Police: “This Was a Deliberate Act”

Detective Chief Inspector Allison Woods, who is leading the investigation, said:

“We are still in the early stages of the investigation. Our primary focus is to understand why this fire was started, and who was responsible for this horrifying act. Peter and Sheila were targeted in their own home – and we will not rest until we find out who did this.”

She added:

“We are asking anyone who lives on or near South John Street and who may have seen or heard anything suspicious between 10pm and midnight on Tuesday 15 July to please come forward.”

Police are particularly keen to hear from residents with CCTV, Ring doorbells, dashcam footage, or any other visual evidence from the area around the time of the incident.
