Specialist negotiators from the Metropolitan Police were deployed to Owens Way on Sunday evening following concerns for a man’s welfare amid reports that an individual had taken someone hostage.

Armed officers from the Metropolitan Police’s MO19 unit, along with Territorial Support Group (TSG) officers, responded to the incident shortly before 7 p.m.

The situation was described as fluid, with authorities advising residents to remain indoors while officers attempted to de-escalate the situation.

During negotiations, the hostage was released unharmed, and specialist officers engaged in continued dialogue with the man, who is believed to be experiencing a mental health crisis.

The road was cordoned off while police worked to bring the incident to a safe resolution.

A Metropolitan Police spokesperson has been contacted for further information regarding the ongoing response. At this time, it is unclear if the man has been taken into custody or if additional measures are being considered.

Local residents were advised to remain inside their homes as a precaution, with police stressing that the situation remains under close control.
This is a developing story, and further updates will follow as more information becomes available.
