The response was overwhelming, with donations reaching four times the estimated repair bill in less than 24 hours, prompting the venue to close the appeal early.
With so much gratitude to Wallington Glass who have just been amazing, we will be re-opening our doors tomorrow night for incredible Ghanaian afro singer-songwriter Wiyaala, who is travelling with her band from Belgium to perform on our stage!” the management announced on social media.
Background of the Attack
The vandalism incident occurred late last Friday night, and it has been linked to recent controversial reporting by BBC London regarding local flag displays. Management expressed concern over the hostile environment and the impact on their venue.
Safety Measures Implemented
In response to the attack, the Sound Lounge plans to enhance security measures, including hiring door staff and installing shutters and additional CCTV around the venue.
Expressing Gratitude
In a statement, the management said, “It’s going to be extremely emotional to be up and running again. The crowdfunder has made the reopening possible, and we are forever grateful for the support we received.” They also acknowledged the challenges faced by staff following the attack, stating, “This is a process… not an easy one.”
