Skydiver Airlifted After Parachute Landing Injury at Headcorn Aerodrome

A skydiver was airlifted to a London hospital after suffering a leg injury during a parachute landing at Headcorn Aerodrome over the weekend.

The incident occurred on Saturday afternoon (13 July), prompting a response from both ground paramedics and the Kent, Surrey and Sussex Air Ambulance.

Injured After 1,333 Jumps

Jane Buckle, manager at Go Skydive Headcorn, told reporters:

“One of our experienced club members – who had already completed 1,333 jumps without incident – tripped over after landing and unfortunately broke his ankle.”

She added that the site’s chief instructor, who is also part of the airfield’s fire and rescue team, administered first aid at the scene before paramedics arrived.

Emergency Services Response

A spokesperson for South East Coast Ambulance Service said:

“We were called shortly after 1pm on Saturday to reports of a person requiring medical attention following a parachute landing at Headcorn Aerodrome.”

“Crews assessed and treated one patient at the scene for leg injuries before being joined by the air ambulance.”

The injured skydiver was flown to King’s College Hospital in London for further treatment.

No Risk to Others

The incident involved an experienced recreational skydiver and did not pose a risk to other visitors or staff at the airfield. Regular operations at Headcorn Aerodrome have since resumed.
