Large parts of England and Wales are currently facing severe weather conditions, including gusty winds, heavy rainfall, and frequent lightning strikes, as thunderstorm warnings take effect across the region.

The Met Office has issued multiple warnings, with the first running from 12 pm to 8 pm today. Affected areas stretch from the West Midlands to the South East, encompassing cities such as Birmingham, London, and Cardiff. The Met Office has warned that rainfall could reach up to 40mm (1.5 inches) in just three hours, raising the risk of flash flooding in certain areas.

Motorists are being urged to exercise caution on the roads, as hazardous driving conditions are expected due to spray, standing water, and possible hail. Lightning strikes pose an additional danger, with the potential to cause structural damage to homes and buildings. There are also concerns about possible power cuts, as well as delays to train services.

A second, more severe weather warning has been issued for Saturday, which will last for 23 hours, beginning at 1 am. This warning will cover a larger area, including the entirety of Wales, Cornwall, and cities as far north as Liverpool. The Met Office warns of frequent lightning, strong winds, and intense rainfall during this period, advising residents in the affected regions to stay informed and take necessary precautions.
