Severe Disruption to London Thameslink Trains over New Year
Severe Disruption to London Thameslink Trains over New Year – UKNIP

Passengers travelling on Thameslink services in south London should be aware of significant disruptions over the New Year period and into the following week due to planned engineering works and train crew shortages.

Here are the key details of the disruptions:

Sunday, December 31 – Monday, January 1: No Thameslink Services to or from London Victoria

During New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day, Thameslink services to and from London Victoria will be severely affected due to essential engineering works in the area. Passengers travelling to or from Orpington or Sevenoaks are advised that Thameslink services will be diverted to start and finish at London Blackfriars instead.

Thameslink services departing from London Blackfriars are expected to operate as usual starting at 9:30 am each morning. Those travelling to London Victoria are encouraged to use the Circle and District Lines on the London Underground for their journeys until 10 am.

Monday, January 1 – Friday, January 5: Reduced Late-Night and Early-Morning Service via Tulse Hill

From New Year’s Day until Friday, there will be reduced late-night and early-morning Thameslink services via Tulse Hill due to planned engineering works between Herne Hill, Peckham Rye, and Streatham.

The following services will be affected:

  • Between Monday and Thursday, the 10:37 pm St Albans to Sutton and the 10:54 pm Luton to Sutton services will terminate at Herne Hill.

Stations affected include Elephant & Castle, Herne Hill, Tulse Hill, Streatham, Mitcham Eastfields, Mitcham Junction, Hackbridge, Carshalton, and Sutton.

  • Between Tuesday and Friday, the 5:46 am Sutton to St Albans (via Hackbridge) and the 5:49 am Sutton to St Albans (via Wimbledon) services will start from Elephant & Castle.

Stations affected include Sutton, Carshalton, Hackbridge, Mitcham Junction, Mitcham Eastfields, Streatham, Tulse Hill, Herne Hill, and Elephant & Castle.

  • Between Monday and Friday, Thameslink overnight services running between Bedford and Three Bridges / Brighton will divert non-stop via London Bridge.

Stations affected include London Bridge, Norwood Junction, East Croydon, South Croydon, Purley, Coulsdon South, and Merstham.

Thameslink customers affected by these disruptions are advised to use London buses to complete their journeys between the impacted stations in south London. Thameslink regrets the inconvenience caused and advises passengers to check their journeys before setting out, especially on Sunday afternoon when no Thameslink trains will be running overnight.

Jenny Saunders, Customer Services Director, expressed apologies for the disruptions and cited train crew shortages, including the impact of winter illnesses, as contributing factors to the service alterations.

Passengers are encouraged to stay informed about travel updates and take necessary precautions while planning their journeys during this period of disruption.
