A serious collision occurred around 2 pm on Saturday 20th January 2024 on Thurnham Lane, near Pilgrims Way and The Street in Bearsted, leading to significant road closures and an extensive investigation. Officers from the Kent Police Serious Road Collision Investigation Unit are currently conducting forensic collision investigations at the scene.
The incident, described as life-changing, has resulted in several persons sustaining serious injuries. Emergency services, including the Kent, Sussex, and Surrey Air Ambulance, were promptly dispatched to the location.

Due to the ongoing investigation and the severity of the collision, Thurnham Lane has been closed in both directions, from The Street at Bearsted to Pilgrims Way in Thurnham. Police have advised that the road will likely remain closed for several hours as the investigation continues and the area is made safe for travel.

Motorists are being strongly advised to find alternative routes and avoid the area. Additionally, drivers are cautioned about severe road conditions on Water Lane, notably thick ice near the motorway bridge, which requires careful navigation.

A Spokesman for Kent Police said: Witnesses are sought following a fatal collision in Bearsted, Maidstone.
At around 1.40pm on Saturday 20 January 2024, the driver of a black BMW X5 was involved in a collision with two pedestrians who were walking a dog in Thurnham Lane.
Officers attended the scene along with South East Coast Ambulance Service where both pedestrians, a man and a woman in their 60s, along with the dog, were pronounced deceased at the scene.
