Sevenoaks Care Home Praised in Latest CQC Inspection

Care UK’s Weald Heights awarded ‘Good’ rating for high standards and personalised care

A Sevenoaks care home has received high praise from inspectors following its latest Care Quality Commission (CQC) inspection, with a ‘Good’ rating awarded across all key areas.

Care UK’s Weald Heights, located on Bourchier Close, was recognised for its safe, effective, caring, well-led, and responsive approach to care after an unannounced inspection.

‘Warm and Friendly Atmosphere’ Noted by Inspectors

The CQC report highlighted the person-centred care approach taken by staff, noting that the team at Weald Heights takes time to understand residents’ personalities, likes, and interests to provide tailored care.

One of the most celebrated aspects of the home was its innovative approach to activities, ensuring they reflect residents’ past hobbies and aspirations. The home’s ‘wishing tree’ initiative allows residents to make personal requests, with staff working to make them happen.

Some of the unique activities provided for residents have included:

  • Taking a former RAF pilot for a Spitfire flight.
  • Visiting a resident’s former school for a nostalgic trip down memory lane.
  • Organising a visit to a famous author’s village, honouring the interests of a resident who was a writer.

One relative praised the home’s efforts, saying:

“There are wonderful activities arranged every day, and great care is taken to look after the wellbeing of each individual resident.”

Safety and Innovation at the Heart of the Home

The report also commended Home Manager Maria Covington for her commitment to continual improvement, particularly her innovative safety measures.

A key highlight was the new motion sensor system installed in residents’ rooms, which provides a 3D model to detect movement and alert staff when assistance is needed—without disturbing residents with call bells.

Residents spoke highly of the care team, with one saying:

“I feel completely safe here. I have no worries at all.”

The home also recently achieved Veteran Friendly Status, with inspectors praising its close relationship with the local British Legion to support veterans living at Weald Heights.

Home Manager Praises Team’s Dedication

Maria Covington, Home Manager at Weald Heights, expressed her pride in the team’s achievements:

“I am incredibly proud of everyone here at Weald Heights. It’s wonderful to lead such a fantastic, caring, and dedicated team. Our ‘Good’ rating is a testament to everyone’s hard work and the superb level of care we provide every day.”
