Serious Multi-Vehicle Crash and Vehicle Fire Shuts Down M2 Eastbound Near Rochester Airport  in Kent – UKNIP

A serious accident involving multiple vehicles and a vehicle fire has forced the closure of the M2 eastbound between Junction 2 (A228 Sundridge Hill, Strood/Rochester) and Junction 3 (Chatham/Rochester).

Emergency services rushed to the scene following reports of a multi-vehicle collision and a vehicle fire, which has caused major disruption on the busy motorway.

The incident was first reported around 4.30pm on Wednesday 16th April 2025, and the road remains closed eastbound, with long queues and delays building in the area. According to traffic sources, Londonbound traffic is also slow, as drivers reduce speed to look at the incident.

Emergency Response

Fire crews, police, and paramedics are at the scene managing the situation. It is not yet known how many people have been injured or the extent of any injuries.

Drivers are being urged to avoid the area and seek alternative routes, with Highways England confirming significant delays on approach. Diversions have been put in place, and traffic officers are working to clear the scene as quickly and safely as possible.
